"With the trial at an end and the jury finding him not guilty, George Zimmerman now has the right by law to have his gun back. Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mark O’Mara, was asked whether Zimmerman intended to carry a gun again. 'Yes. Even more reason now, isn’t there?' O’Mara replies. 'There are a lot of people out there who actually hate him.' And although by Florida law Zimmerman has the right to have his gun returned to him, that doesn’t necessarily mean his concealed carry permit will be handed over quite as easily. She claims that her ex-husband attacked her and made her fear for her life. She had already taken out a protective order against him after he had assaulted her, including one incident that put her in hospital. She had never been in trouble with the law before her arrest. "The Obama Administration now requires gun dealers in states bordering on Mexico to report anyone who buys two semi-automatic rifles in a week’s time. A panel of three federal judges has upheld this. Gun dealers in these states are affected: Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California. The official explanation? It’s to keep guns from flowing into Mexico. The government has no similar plan for gun dealers in states on the Canadian border. Where is the ACLU on this one? Missing in action. "The ten states given the highest ratings by the Brady Campaign for having the most stringent gun control legislation have about triple the amount of gun deaths compared to the ten states that have the least restrictive gun legislation, according to data compiled by the Examiner. Using data from Slate, the Examiner also found that the Brady Campaign's highest rated state for having the most restrictive gun legislation, California, also had the highest number of gun deaths(677) since the Sandy Hook shooting. The state with the fewest restrictions on firearms (and therefore the lowest scored), Utah, has had 29 gun deaths since Sandy Hook." Continue reading →

Missouri gov. signs gun-safety course for first-graders

"Missouri schools will be encouraged to teach first-graders a gun safety course sponsored by the National Rifle Association as a result of legislation signed Friday by Gov. Jay Nixon. The legislation also requires school personnel to participate in an 'active shooter and intruder' drill led by law enforcement officers. The legislation also transfers the responsibility for issuing identification cards for concealed gun permits from driver’s license clerks to local sheriffs.
