Is Detroit a Self-Defense Haven?

"Detroit has been getting a lot of attention for its recent shootings. Not the usual criminal stuff, but the step-up in self-defense shootings as people have come to realize that the police only exist to mark the outlines of bodies with chalk. Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79% in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200% above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies." Continue reading

These Vehicles Are Tons of Fun, and Good for Thwarting Road Rage

"Weapons buffs may stock semiautomatics in the gun safe. But nothing makes a statement like having an Army tank in the garage. Scattered around the country are members of a small fraternity of guys who own tanks. They are hyper-avid history buffs or hyper-edgy investors or just wealthy men who can now afford hyper-sized versions of the toys they played with when they were boys. Tank brokers—yes, there is such a thing—estimate there are several hundred to 1,000 private tank owners in the U.S." Continue reading

Gun-control demagoguery is a lethal weapon

"Despite tough economic times, firearms and ammunition companies have created nearly 27,000 well-paying jobs over the past two years alone. Smart lawmakers from Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma, Arizona, and South Carolina are now courting Remington away from New York and Magpul away from Colorado. For now, these states can offer business-friendly, Second Amendment–defending climates that support a demonized industry. But how much longer will it be until Obama and the pro-jobs hypocrites on Capitol Hill find new, more nefarious ways to obstruct this innovation-driving, wealth-producing sector of the American economy?" Maybe We’ll Reduce the NYPD to Firing Spitballs!

"As a reluctant and endangered resident of New York City, I deeply appreciate those heroes who stand up for my right to defend myself. A number of them work at companies that manufacture or sell guns, and they are boycotting the NYPD! Yes! They have 'pledge[d] not to sell anything to a State or local government agency that can’t be sold to a resident of that state or locality.' Yeehaw! So far, a whopping 95 righteous retailers are onboard! Unfortunately, the three corporations that supply almost all the NYPD's firepower have refused to join their competitors in upholding the Second Amendment: Glock, SIG Sauer, and Smith and Wesson." SWAT ‘automatic assault rifle’ stolen from New Orleans police car

"Deputies in Jefferson Parish says that an 'automatic assault rifle' and other SWAT gear was stolen from a New Orleans Police Department car over the weekend. A Wednesday statement from Sheriff’s office spokesperson Col. John Fortunato said that five vehicles were burglarized in the Audubon Oaks subdivision on Sunday morning before the Super Bowl. The officer 'allegedly broke a departmental Performance of Duty rule by leaving his equipment in the trunk of his vehicle,' according to NOPD spokesperson Remi Braden." Continue reading

Gary Raney: The Slave-Catching Sheriff of Ada County, Idaho

"Give Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney whatever credit is due to him for his candor: Like the other sheriffs who have pledged not to carry out unconstitutional federal gun confiscation measures, Raney receives federal subsidies – but unlike his pro-Second Amendment colleagues, Raney is forthright about the fact that he is merely a servile tool of the federal leviathan state. He will confiscate firearms from innocent people if ordered to, but at least he won’t have to walk back any promises he had made to protect their rights." Continue reading

Forbes: 1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It’s Time For A National Conversation

"Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. At the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America. Add to this perplexing outré purchase of ammo, DHS now is showing off its acquisition of heavily armored personnel carriers, repatriated from the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation." Will Grigg: “No Hesitation”

"Among the training targets are images depicting 'non-traditional threats,' such as pregnant women, children, and grandmotherly women – in other words, 'Little People' – carrying guns. The company’s marketing team explains that the 'non-traditional targets' were created at the request of police officers and trainers, who are seeking to dis-inhibit the killing instincts of police 'when deadly force is required on subjects with atypical age, frailty or condition…. This hesitation time may be only seconds but that is not acceptable when officers are losing their lives in these same situations….'" Continue reading

“Gun Control” Means More State-Licensed Gun Violence

"Barack Obama paid a brief visit to Minneapolis today to rally support for his administration’s proposals to restrict private firearms ownership. Significantly, he didn’t address the public; instead, he met with police officials at the Minneapolis PoliceDepartment Special Operations Center. The White House praised Minneapolis as 'a city that has taken important steps to reduce gun violence and foster a conversation in the community about what further action is needed.' One of those steps was the overt militarization of law enforcement through the promiscuous use of SWAT teams." Continue reading
