Detroit OKs Expansion of ShotSpotter Surveillance Tech

Last week, the Detroit City Council narrowly approved an expansion of the city's controversial ShotSpotter surveillance technology. But instead of using COVID stimulus money as initially planned, the funding will come out of the police department's own budget.

Battle Over Shotspotter Surveillance Tech in San Diego Underscores Need for Oversight

San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit asked the city council to approve a new contract for Shotspotter audio technology without any process to address community concerns. Community pushback led by the TRUST SD Coalition was enough to get the contract renewal pulled from the council agenda last month.
