Getting Up-to-date on Syria

"The rebel leader has called for reinforcements. That article mentions that 'More than 80,000 Christians were forced to flee al-Qusayr in late 2012 to escape the frenzy of the jihadists.' The U.S. is on the side of a collection of certain jihadist groups. Hezbollah, associated with Iran, has joined the Syrian government side. It is the prospect of an Assad win that has Obama, Kerry and the Senate warmongers scrambling with new propaganda angles so that they can find cover and more freely supply the rebels with stronger weapons. They are also pushing to end an embargo on arms shipments from Europe." Continue reading

The Age of Authoritarianism: Government of the Politicians, by the Military, for the Corporations

"President Obama’s declaration that 'America is at a crossroads' in the fight against terror, a fight that is increasingly turning inwards, setting its sights on homegrown extremists, should give every American pause. We have indeed reached a crossroads. History may show that from this point forward, we will have left behind any semblance of constitutional government and entered into a militaristic state where all citizens are suspects and security trumps freedom. Certainly, this is a time when government officials operate off their own inscrutable, self-serving playbook with little in the way of checks and balances." Continue reading

When Terrorism Comes Home

"Several observers have pointed out the similarities between today's savage attack in London, where a British soldier was reportedly beheaded by two men shouting 'Allahu Akbar,' and the gruesome recent attack by US/UK-supported Free Syrian Army Commander Abu Sakkar, who cut out and devoured his Syrian Army soldier victim's heart. That US overt and covert support of the insurgency in Syria, including its radical and al-Qaeda affiliated elements, is a known fact. But we know that eventually these US-supported Islamist radicals with Western passports will come home -- and now we have a better idea of what might be in store for us when they do." After You Read This Kid’s Story, You’ll Think Twice About What You Post On Facebook.

"Meet Cameron D’Ambrosio. He’s 18 and lives in a small town outside Boston. He wants to be a rapper and calls himself 'Cammy Dee' in his YouTube videos. He’s been locked up without bail for weeks — facing terrorism charges and 20 years in prison — all for something he posted on Facebook. On May 1st, Cam was skipping school and messing around online. He posted some lyrics that included a vague reference to the Boston Marathon Bombing and called the Whitehouse a 'federal house of horror.' Shortly after that he was arrested and charged with Communicating a Terrorist Threat, a felony that carries 20 years in prison." Continue reading

Benghazi: Who Cares?

"In Libya, the media has gotten side tracked on a potentially sensational Obama administration cover up—no matter how minor—instead of asking the more important questions: 'Would U.S. diplomats have been killed if the United States had not overthrown Muammar Gaddafi and destabilized Libya?' or 'Did the U.S. military intervention destabilize the entire region by unleashing Gaddafi’s huge weapon stocks and fighters into places like Mali?' Bloodthirsty Republicans, such as John McCain and Lindsay Graham, don’t want to ask these questions, because it would undermine the rationale for their zealous advocacy of an ill-advised American intervention in Libya." Ron Paul: What No One Wants to Hear About Benghazi

"Neither side wants to talk about the real lesson of Benghazi: interventionism always carries with it unintended consequences. The US attack on Libya led to the unleashing of Islamist radicals in Libya. These radicals have destroyed the country, murdered thousands, and killed the US ambassador. Some of these then turned their attention to Mali which required another intervention by the US and France. Previously secure weapons in Libya flooded the region after the US attack, with many of them going to Islamist radicals who make up the majority of those fighting to overthrow the government in Syria." Air Force Strips 17 Officers Of Authority To Control And Launch Nuclear Missiles

"The Air Force stripped an unprecedented 17 officers of their authority to control nuclear missiles after a string of unpublicized failings, including a remarkably dim review of their unit's launch skills. The group's deputy commander said it is suffering 'rot' within its ranks. 'We are, in fact, in a crisis right now,' the commander, Lt. Col. Jay Folds, wrote in an internal email obtained by The Associated Press and confirmed by the Air Force. The tip-off to trouble was a March inspection of the 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., which earned the equivalent of a 'D'' grade when tested on its mastery of Minuteman III missile launch operations." Glenn Greenwald: U.S. oligarchs focused on military and surveillance state to put down unrest

“You can do one of two things in response to that discontent: You can try to placate it, whether symbolically placate it or substantively placate it so you avoid that kind of extreme income disparity… [and] even things out a just little bit more, however much you need to calm people down; or you consolidate your own power so that even if people become discontent, there’s nothing they can do to you because you’ve created this massive militarized state, this massive surveillance state. Our elite appears to be doing the later, and very little of the former, if any.” Continue reading

Bill Bonner: ‘War’ takes place in the shadows

"How long will it be before the clandestine terrorist agencies begin their own campaigns of terror? Perhaps they already have. With so many secret agencies plotting, conniving, enticing, luring, fomenting, and sowing their evil seeds, it won't be long before something takes root. One group of spooks will lay a trap...and catch another group....and accuse a third group, whom they will mistake for real terrorists. One bomb will go off. Another attempt will be thwarted at the last minute. Still another group, led on a double-agent and financed by secret funds provided by the taxpayer, will be hauled in front of the TV cameras." The “Chechen Connection”, Al Qaeda and the Boston Marathon Bombings

"Media reports carefully overlook the historical origins of the Chechnya jihadist movement and its pervasive links to US intelligence. The fact of the matter is that the jihadist movement is a creation of US intelligence, which has also led to the development of 'political Islam'. While the role of the CIA in support of the Islamic jihad is amply documented, there is also evidence that the FBI has covertly equipped and incited would be terrorists within the US. The CIA’s agenda starting in the late 1970s was to recruit and train jihadist 'freedom fighters' (Mujahideen) to wage 'a war of liberation' directed against the pro-Soviet secular government of Afghanistan."
