Obamacare, Stimulus, and Other Disasters

"John Lott is best known to the public for his outstanding analysis of gun control legislation, but his research as an economist extends far beyond that topic; and he here gives us a devastating account that covers the full range of the Obama Administration’s economic policy. One would expect a book by John Lott to say something informative about gun control, and our author does not disappoint us. It transpires that he met President Obama when both of them served on the law school faculty of the University of Chicago." Continue reading

Concealed Carry Proves Guns Are Part of Solution to Gun Violence

"In his seminal work, 'More Guns, Less Crime,' scholar John Lott brought together FBI crime stats to show not only that concealed carry lowers crime but that it it lowers violent crime especially. During the early 1990s, as concealed carry laws were being instituted around the country, Lott observed the impact on crime at the county level: 'When state concealed-carry handgun laws went into effect in a county, murder fell by about 8 percent, rapes fell by 5 percent, and aggravated assaults fell by 7 percent.' Yet the mainstream media seizes on one criminal use of a gun to ban guns altogether?" Continue reading

Chicago Braces for the First Day of School; Safe Passage Routes

"Thousands of Chicago children will be walking a different route to school as they begin the new academic year on Monday morning after the city closed about 50 elementary schools to help plug a projected $1bn education budget gap. Most of Chicago’s cuts have taken place in the predominantly poor, African-American and Latino south and west sides, which is also where the majority of the city’s record 506 murders occurred last year. The city has created 600 'safe passage' routes manned by adults and meant to try to ensure the safety of students crossing gang territories. But in recent weeks at least two people have been killed on those paths." Continue reading

Feeding Homeless Apparently Illegal in Raleigh, NC

"This morning we showed up at Moore Square at 9:00 a.m., just like we have done virtually every Saturday and Sunday for the last six years. We provide, without cost or obligation, hot coffee and a breakfast sandwich to anyone who wants one. We keep this promise to our community in cooperation with five different large suburban churches that help us with manpower and funding. Today officers from Raleigh Police Department prevented us from doing our work, for the first time ever. An officer said, quite bluntly, that if we attempted to distribute food, we would be arrested." Continue reading
