To Kill an American

"There were not too many surprises in the newly disclosed 'white paper' offering a legal reasoning behind the claim that President Obama has the power to order the killing of American citizens who are believed to be part of Al Qaeda. We knew Mr. Obama and his lawyers believed he has that power under the Constitution and federal law. We also knew that he utterly rejects the idea that Congress or the courts have any right to review such a decision in advance, or even after the fact. Still, it was disturbing to see the twisted logic laid out in black and white. It had the air of a legal justification written after the fact for a policy decision that had already been made." City workers tow car after painting ‘handicapped parking’ markings around it

"In video posted to Facebook on Monday night, several workers are seen painting white lines around Hila Ben Baruch’s car and then adding a the universal symbol of a wheelchair behind the car to denote a disabled parking spot. Later in the video, a tow truck arrives to lift the car from its space and carries it away. 'While my car was parked in a [legal] blue-and-white spot, two municipal workers came by and signposted it as handicapped parking!' she wrote. 'In a heartbeat they repainted the curb, from blue and white to gray. That’s it. Simple.'" Continue reading

Majority Says the Federal Government Threatens Their Personal Rights

"As Barack Obama begins his second term in office, trust in the federal government remains mired near a historic low, while frustration with government remains high. And for the first time, a majority of the public says that the federal government threatens their personal rights and freedoms. The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Jan. 9-13 among 1,502 adults, finds that 53% think that the federal government threatens their own personal rights and freedoms while 43% disagree." Mexican Militias Fight Back Against Drug Lords, Accomplish What Authorities Could Not

"Outraged at relentless extortion, kidnapping and theft as a wave of drug-related violence washes over Mexico, farmers, shopkeepers and other residents in the mountainous southern state of Guerrero are taking the law into their own hands as 'community police.' 'We have to fight for everyone’s good so we decided to try to clear away all the bad people. We have to get rid of these animals because they are committing extortion in the community, the whole town and the people are fed up.'" Continue reading

Ron Paul: Immigration ‘Reform’ Will Turn the US into a Police State

"The devil is in the details, and the details of the McCain plan are deeply disturbing. To secure the borders he is calling for a massive increase in drones flying over US territory, spying on US citizens along the border – and presumably within the 100 mile 'border zone' over which Department of Homeland Security claims jurisdiction. Additionally, the McCain/Schumer plan calls for a nationwide, mandatory E-Verify program, which forces employers to act as federal immigration agents, and forces American citizens to prove to the government that they are allowed to work. E-Verify is an East Germany-like program that creates a massive federal database of every American citizen." Continue reading

Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano Considering Run For President

"WaPo says she's thinking about it: 'So, what happens if Hillary Clinton doesn’t run in 2016? It is hard to imagine the presidential field without a woman contender, and here’s one to keep your eye on: Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Napolitano is quietly making it known that she is considering the race, and there is reason to take her seriously.'" Continue reading

India Warns Kashmiris to Prepare for Nuclear War

"Indian officials are advising residents of strife-tornKashmir to prepare for a possible nuclear war by building bombproof basements and stockpiling food and water, adding to tensions between India and Pakistan, both nuclear powers, after deadly cross-border skirmishes in recent weeks. India, heavily Hindu, controls the bulk of the predominantly Muslim region of Kashmir, which has been at the heart of disputes between the two nations since they won independence from Britain in 1947. The land along the cease-fire Line of Control is one of the most heavily militarized areas in the world." Continue reading

In Writing, the Justification Used by Obama to Kill Americans

"The 16-page memo, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News, provides new details about the legal reasoning behind one of the Obama administration’s most secretive and controversial polices: its dramatically increased use of drone strikes against al-Qaida suspects, including those aimed at American citizens. But the confidential Justice Department 'white paper' introduces a more expansive definition of self-defense or imminent attack than described by Brennan or Holder in their public speeches. It refers, for example, to what it calls a 'broader concept of imminence' than actual intelligence about any ongoing plot against the U.S. homeland." Continue reading

How Regulations Squeeze Small Competitors for the Benefit of the Banksters

"An article at Investment News reports on the decline of independent small brokerage firms. These firms are squeezed by new regulations. The large firms have teams of lawyers that can deal with the changing regulation, not so for the smaller firms, so they get squeezed out of business. It's this type of regulation that results in the rich getting richer and others falling behind." Continue reading
