Rep. Walter Jones: Dick Cheney is going to hell for the Iraq war

"Republican Rep. Walter Jones of North Carolina said Saturday that former Vice President Dick Cheney would likely end up in hell because of his role in the Iraq war. At a Young Americans for Liberty conference, Jones said it was impossible under current law to prosecute a president for intentionally manipulating intelligence reports to make the case for war. He co-authored a bill to change the law, but the legislation was killed in committee by Lamar Smith of Texas. The conservative Christian turned against the war after witnessing American causalities and once it became clear Iraq was not building any weapons of mass destruction." Continue reading

Mexican town finds more security by throwing out the police

"The indigenous town of Cherán used to be like many places in Mexico, caving under the weight of drug-related crime and a police force that did little to stop it. But about two years ago, citizens here threw out the police, and took over their local government, running the town according to indigenous tradition. So far, they’ve had remarkable success. About six months after villagers threw out the police, the Mexican state granted the town a degree of legal autonomy to govern itself on the local level, according to indigenous tradition." US drugs prosecutors switch sides to defend accused Colombian traffickers

"US prosecutors and other senior officials who spearheaded the war against drug cartels have quit their jobs to defend Colombian cocaine traffickers, saying their clients are not bad people and that United States drug policy is wrong. Senior former assistant US attorneys and Drug Enforcement Administration agents are turning years of experience in investigating, indicting and extraditing narcos to the advantage of the alleged traffickers they now represent. Feitel and Klapper spoke of recognising the humanity of their clients and called for alternatives to a four-decade-old 'war on drugs' which costs billions of dollars and incarcerates thousands." Banking group warns there’s too much ‘easy money’ in global economy

"An influential group of leading world banks warned Thursday that central banks are pumping out too much easy money and markets risk becoming dangerously addicted to ultra-low interest rates. The Institute of International Finance, which groups 450 banks, said if central banks continue to flood money into the global economy then any future bid to get it under control could itself destabilize the financial system. 'These conditions — quantitative easing, very low interest rates — cannot last forever, but the risk is that financial markets have become addicted to them,' it warned." Continue reading

More Sanctuaries for All You Ron Paulians, Vets, Pro-lifers and Anti-Leviathan Types

"Michigan’s Senate unanimously passed legislation to protect its citizens – and, we’ll presume, any American refugee who flees to the Mitten State – from Obummer’s 'legalized' kidnapping and 'indefinite detention,' a.k.a., the NDAA. 'No member of the Michigan national guard on active state service shall aid an agency of the armed forces of the United States in any investigation, prosecution, or detention of any person pursuant to section 1021 of the national defense authorization act for fiscal year 2012.' Obummer’s grab for such dictatorial power has suffered a slew of defeats lately in Montana, Indiana, Colorado and Arizona." Continue reading

Massive ACLU initiative aims to measure police state’s growth

"The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said Wednesday that chapters in 23 states have filed over 255 open records requests pertaining to the militarization of local police departments around the country since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, in what the group is calling its most concentrated effort yet to assess the growth of America’s police state. The ACLU is also seeking information on the use of drone aircraft by local law enforcement, along with GPS tracking systems, any military weapons obtained from the federal government and so-called 'shock cuffs' that can be programmed to deliver electric shocks or even sedative injections to restrained detainees." Italian newcomer Grillo predicts collapse in six months

"Italy's comedian turned protest politician, Beppe Grillo, has told German news magazine 'Focus' that he believes the country's political system could crumble within the year. 'I'd give the old parties another six months - then it will be all over here,' Grillo said in excerpts of the interview released on Saturday ahead of Focus' publication. 'Then they won't be able to cover pension payments or public sector salaries anymore.' Grillo, a populist who pledged a referendum on Italy withdrawing from the euro during the country's recent election campaign, said that Italy's national debt was becoming unsustainable and that its terms had to be renegotiated." Nigel Farage’s ‘Fruitcakes, Loonies & Closet Racists’ Libertarian UKIP knocks down Tories into third

"The British Conservative party has for the first time been pushed into third place in a by-election in the town of Eastleigh, by a party David Cameron dubbed 'fruitcakes and loonies and closet racists.' The UKIP (the UK Independence Party) strongly opposes immigration, and advocates for the UK to leave the European Union. In the Eastleigh vote, the Lib Dem Party polled at 13,342 votes, UKIP at 11,571, the Conservatives at 10,559 and Labour at 4,088. Four States Advance Legislation To Block NDAA Indefinite Detention

"In a stunning move last week, four states, Indiana, Colorado, Montana and Arizona, successfully advanced anti-NDAA legislation. The goal for each bill is to protect the people of that state from indefinite detention under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012. The 2012 NDAA applies broad detention power to U.S. soil, allowing the federal government to detain and even execute any person, including an American citizen, on U.S. soil. There has not been such backlash against a federal law since Congress attempted to enforce a mandatory national speed limit, as over 21 states have introduced legislation to counter the law."
