The legislation would prohibit a payment settlement entity, merchant acquiring entity, or a third-party settlement organization from assigning a merchant category code or otherwise classifying a merchant that is a seller of firearms or ammunition separately from general merchandise retailers or sporting goods retailers.

Rhode Island Bill Would Limit Warrantless Electronic Data Collection and Stingray Surveillance

Titled the “Electronic Information and Data Privacy Act,” the legislation would prohibit law enforcement agencies from obtaining “the location information, stored data, or transmitted data of an electronic device; or electronic information or data transmitted by the owner of the electronic information or data to a remote computing service provider” without a warrant based on probable cause.

Minnesota Bill Would Ban Facial Recognition Surveillance

Under the law, a government entity or official could not "obtain, retain, access, or use any face surveillance system or any information obtained from a face surveillance system; or enter into an agreement or arrangement with a private entity to obtain, retain, access, or use any face surveillance system or any information obtained from a face surveillance system."
