50,000% return: Assange thanks US for forcing him to invest in Bitcoin

"In his tweet, Assange called out current and former senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman, respectively, for forcing him into seeking alternative sources of funding which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. At the time, Lieberman called for the Department of Justice to indict Assange under the 1917 Espionage Act and sought his extradition from the UK for leaking US Embassy cables."

Donald Trump didn’t create presidential dictatorship — he inherited it

"Violating the Constitution is practically the job description for modern presidents. It was George W. Bush’s White House, not Trump, that asserted a 'commander-in-chief override' entitling presidents to ignore the law and the Bill of Rights. Congress utterly failed to thwart that outrageous claim. Presidents have amassed vast authority because they are judged on their rhetoric and purported goals, not on their constitutional fidelity."

Trump Has Killed More Civilians in 9 Months Than Obama Did in 8 Years

"President Trump has been in office for just 9 months, and he has already surpassed Obama’s murderous record with estimated numbers as high as 4,500 civilian deaths. Trump made headlines in December 2015, when he declared that if elected, he would not only kill members of ISIS—he would also 'take out their families.' He is following through on that promise, according to a report from Steven Feldstein, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State."

Governments turn tables by suing public records requesters

"Government bodies are increasingly turning the tables on citizens who seek public records that might be embarrassing or legally sensitive. Instead of granting or denying their requests, a growing number of school districts, municipalities and state agencies have filed lawsuits against people making the requests – taxpayers, government watchdogs and journalists who must then pursue the records in court at their own expense."

Trump hasn’t drained the swamp – he’s put the military in charge of it

"The military-industrial complex will look more like a military-billionaire complex, with the generals imposing a sense of order if the rich men squabble too publicly, and blocking any Banana Republicanism if they seek to make themselves and their friends ever richer." Continue reading

Donor sues GOP for fraud, racketeering after failed Obamacare repeal

"A retired attorney in Virginia Beach is so incensed that Republicans couldn’t repeal the Affordable Care Act that he’s suing to get political donations back, accusing the GOP of fraud and racketeering. The 45 times Trump said attacking Syria was a bad idea and might start WWIII

"In October, Trump blasted then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's position on Syria — that the U.S. military should take out al-Assad's airfields, the exact type of strike Trump ordered Thursday — by saying attacking a Russian-backed government could start World War III." Trump comes out in support of Ex-Im Bank, reversing campaign rhetoric

"On Thursday, two Democratic senators said that Trump indicated he would support the bank following a lunch with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. In addition, they said Trump promised to fill two vacant seats on the bank's board, which in the meantime is barred from financing deals of more than $10 million. 'I specifically talked with the president about the need to get the Export-Import Bank up and running,' Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota said. 'It's great news he agreed.' Though the bank said that 90 percent of its authorizations are for small businesses, Boeing is one of its biggest beneficiaries." Continue reading

China currency devaluation hits stocks; dollar gains on currency war fears

"China's 2 percent devaluation of the yuan on Tuesday pushed the U.S. dollar higher and hit Wall Street and other global equity markets as it raised fears of a new round of currency wars and fed worries about slowing Chinese economic growth. U.S. stock indices dropped more than 1 percent and stocks also fell in Asia and Europe as investors contemplated the implications of a move designed to support China's slowing economy and exports. Companies that sell to China were hit hard, with heavy equipment maker Caterpillar losing 3.13 percent and Germany's Volkswagen dropping 4 percent. Energy and materials shares also tumbled on China demand concerns." Continue reading
