School forces 25 hungry students to throw away lunches when they couldn’t pay

"A group Massachusetts parents are outraged and at least one worker has been placed on administrative leave after about 25 students Robert J. Coelho Middle School in Attleboro were forced to throw away their lunches over concerns that they could not pay for the food. Parents said that some students cried and went home hungry. School officials told The Sun Chronicle that Whitson’s, the contractor responsible for providing lunches, made the decision to stop students from eating their lunch if there was not enough credit in the student’s pre-paid account or they were not able to provide cash for the meal." Kindergartener Suspended Over Mohawk Hairstyle

"A kindergartner with a new, spiked Mohawk haircut was sent home from a local elementary school this week for violating the district's dress code. Keshia Castle said she was told on Wednesday that her 5-year-old son, Ethan Clos, cannot not to come back to Reid Elementary School until he gets rid of his Mohawk, a haircut in which the head is shaved on the sides and only a strip of hair is left on top and down the middle of the scalp. Superintendent Gregg Morris said the hairstyle was a distraction for students and violates district rules." Continue reading

Astonishing Number of College Graduates Had Minimum-Wage Jobs Last Year

"About 284,000 Americans with college degrees were working minimum wage jobs last year, according to WSJ. That’s 70 percent more college grads working for the minimum wage than 10 years ago. Nearly half of the college graduates in the class of 2010 are working in jobs that don’t require a bachelor’s degree and 38 percent have jobs that don’t even require a high school diploma, according to a January report from the Center for College Affordability and Productivity." Disabled Grandfather Charged With Terrorism After School Complaint

"A disabled grandfather from Centerville is behind bars facing terrorism charges. We talked with 52-year old Brian Davis from the Appanoose County Jail where he is charged with felony threat of terrorism. He says he was making small talk with his physical therapist, complaining about what he considers to be lax security at his granddaughter’s school, when the therapist claimed Davis made a threatening comment about going into the school and opening fire. Davis, who has no criminal record and says he doesn’t even own a gun, says this is all a big misunderstanding. But police say they won’t take any chances when it comes to children’s safety." Public Schools Give Kids Attention Deficit Disorder.

"The CDC has diagnosed this at attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as 'I’d rather not be here' disorder. It is higher in states where boys can go hunting instead of sitting in school. In South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas, the squirming is intense: 23%. The solution is drugs. Legal ones. The ones supplied by the pushers: public schools. These drugs keep people from squirming. When you are listening to some tax-funded, tenured drone, and you would rather be hunting, pills help. Medicaid covers the cost of the drugs for poor families. The children in these families have one-third more instances of the disease." Continue reading

Odorless ‘weed candies’ in high schools worry Oregon authorities

"Small hard candy infused with marijuana has popped up in high schools in northwestern Oregon, authorities have warned. The sugary green candy is frequently shaped as a skull, Gresham police officer Rick Blake told local news station KGW. 'They just sit and suck on it,' Blake added. 'And, the biggest thing is its odorless, and having no odor, they can sit in class and have this thing and by the end of class, they’re high.' The drug-infused treat is reportedly being sold to high school students for $1 to $5 a piece. Blake told the Portland Tribune the 'weed candy' was relatively easy to make, requiring only marijuana and a few common household ingredients." Continue reading

Colleges attempt to avoid tuition cost scrutiny by piling on student fees

"Student fees have for years been often criticized as a kind of stealth, second tuition imposed on unsuspecting families. But such fees are still on the rise on many campuses. And though their names can border on the comical - i.e., the 'student success fee' - there’s nothing funny about how they can add up. At the University of California Santa Cruz, where tuition runs to nearly $35,000 for non-residents, students every year pay more than 30 additional fees 2014 including a small charge for what’s billed as 'free' HIV testing. Students at Oklahoma State University are responsible for covering 18 different fees, including a 'life safety and security fee.'" Continue reading

The Collapse of the Value of a College Education

"The college system is far from a free market profit oriented system. Almost 100% of colleges take money from government or accept students who receive government loans. This results in colleges being required to meet government guidelines which have dramatically dumb downed the system. The Chinese government has created 60 million vacant apartments through its central planning policies, while the U.S. government through its intervention in the education system has created tens of millions of college graduates with vacant minds." McDonald’s want ad demands bachelor’s degree, two years experience for cashier

"With colleges producing more graduates, and youth unemployment at a sky-high 11.5 percent, even landing a job selling Big Macs is getting competitive. Consider: A job opening at a Massachusetts McDonald's restaurant for a full-time cashier requires one to two years experience and a bachelor's degree. 'Get a weekly paycheck with a side order of food, folks and fun,' offered McDonalds. It is not clear if the fast-food restaurant really wants that kind of experience or is fishing for the highest-qualified applicants. The website for the Winchedon, Mass., McDonald's also lists jobs in Spanish." Continue reading
