Ex-Haines City Officer Pleads Guilty in Underage Prostitution Case

"Demetrius Lamar Condry, 27, pleaded guilty Friday to charges of lewd battery and official misconduct, court papers say. The State Attorney's Office dropped a more severe charge of sexual battery by an officer. His arrest was part of an investigation into a prostitution business that Paul Aaron Jr., 28, who was a school bus monitor, is accused of running under the name Genuine Quality Entertainment. Deputies said Aaron exploited runaway girls younger than 18. An arrest report said one of the girls was forced to have sex with Condry for free so Aaron could receive favors from him in the future." Wash. state bill allows police to search students without parental consent

"A Washington state bill, S.B. 5618, that would allow police officers, or 'school resource officers,' to search students without probable cause or parental consent, passed the State Senate Monday, 30-19. The legislation would allow police to search a student's person, locker and possessions if they are believed to be violating the law or any school rule. Currently under Washington state law, if a school employee has a reasonable suspicion to search a student, they have the right, but a police officer serving as a school resource officer cannot search a student without probable cause." Private Schools in India Serve the Poor, but Can They Survive Attacks by Government?

"I despise policies such as corporate subsidies, bailouts and minimum wage laws. So you’ll understand why I’m particularly upset that the government of India is now trying to undermine opportunity for the poor by shutting down private schools. Because the government schools do a terrible job, there are millions of poor families who are sacrificing to send their kids to private schools. Apparently embarrassed by the fact that so many millions of poor families would rather pay for good private schools than go to free state institutions, the government is trying to regulate the private schools out of existence." Officials: 80 Percent Of Recent NYC High School Graduates Cannot Read

"When they graduated from city high schools, students in a special remedial program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College couldn’t make the grade. They had to re-learn basic skills — reading, writing and math — first before they could begin college courses. They are part of a disturbing statistic. Officials told CBS 2′s Kramer that nearly 80 percent of those who graduate from city high schools arrived at City University’s community college system without having mastered the skills to do college-level work." The Dorm Boom: Higher Education’s Fellow Traveler

"It’s a curious time for a campus construction boom. Alternatives to a traditional college education are growing every day. Amid the change and uncertainty, real estate developers are rushing to build student housing. Major homebuilding companies like Lennar and Toll Brothers that ramped their businesses up in the single-family housing boom have now shifted their focus to another boom: student housing. While Freddie Mac, a large purchaser of student housing loans, is a bit cautious after purchasing $1.7 billion in loans last year, the private sector is ready to build. Bricks-and-mortar higher education is a bubble searching for a pin. Student housing is going along for the ride." Continue reading

Statist, Warmongering Retired Generals

"Three retired generals from Nebraska are calling on state lawmakers to support an increase of $10 million per year for the Early Childhood Education Endowment Cash Fund as a necessary step to ensure that more young adults meet the basic qualifications for military service. 'Our military remains the strongest in the world, but I am very concerned about the reduced number of young men and women who can meet all of the qualifications required to serve in our Armed Forces,' said a General Cohen." High School Student Disarms Gunman…Gets Suspended

"The 16-year-old Cypress Lake High student in Fort Myers, Fla. told WFTX-TV there was 'no doubt' he saved a life after grappling for the loaded .22 caliber revolver being aimed point-blank at another student on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed to WFTX the weapon was indeed loaded, and the arrest report stated the suspect, identified by WVZN-TV as Quadryle Davis, was 'pointing the gun directly' at the other student and 'threatening to shoot him.' That’s when, the teen told the station, he and two others tackled the suspect and wrestled the gun away. The next day, all three were suspended." Continue reading

Air National Guard Member In Fatigues Spurs Michigan School Lockdown

"The man, who was not identified in reports, was apparently looking for the school guidance counselor sometime around 6AM to obtain a letter of recommendation, but an overnight custodian spotted him wandering the halls and called police on account of the man’s 'suspicious' nature. The call sparked an evacuation, a school lockdown and an investigation, although the man had already left the school. 'The school was placed on lockdown and buses filled with students were forced to wait at a nearby grocery store parking while police conducted their investigation,' My Fox Detroit reported." School Offers Counseling for Students Troubled by Pastry-Gun Incident

"if your children are 'troubled' by another kid biting a pastry into something that looks sort of like a gun and waving said pastry around, you have already failed as a parent. The two-day suspension indicates that the school considered this a 'Level 3' violation, but exactly what part of the Code was in play is not clear. The letter suggests Josh disrupted the class, but the reference to 'inappropriate gestures' involving food can only mean he was also charged with a pastry-based-weapons violation." Continue reading
