"Is the government spying on Americans legal and lawful under the Constitution? Perhaps you’ve delegated that decision to the 'experts', but my advice is go check it yourself. See the Amendments that cover being secure in your papers and effects. The Constitution isn’t a hard read, although there are many that want to pretend words don’t mean what they obviously mean. You are naïve to expect some politician or bureaucrat will protect your ownership interests, also known as rights. It’s truly up to you to carefully read the contract between you and the government and to verify that the government is living up to its part of the bargain. "Stahl, a Pelham officer for 12 years, was the focus of a public disciplinary hearing before selectmen last month, where he was accused of: Loudly berating a female drunken-driving suspect in a profanity-laced interrogation. Drawing his gun on two apparently unarmed teens during a traffic stop. Being heard by a Pelham police dispatcher on the radio speaking in a profane manner toward his superior officer, Lt. Brian McCarthy, and broadcasting his desire to punch one female civilian he encountered on duty 'right in the face.' Vermont: Federal Lawsuit Challenges Bogus Traffic Stop, Lying Cop

"Rod MacIver filed a suit in the US District Court for the District of Vermont on Thursday over the December 9, 2012 traffic stop. Officer Jason P. Lawton pulled over MacIver's truck and accused him of running a red light, even though a dashcam video of the incident confirms that did not happen (view video). When MacIver began arguing with Officer Lawton, he was slapped with a $214 ticket and two points against his driver's license. Lawton then filed a complaint about the rookie officer with the Shelburne Police Department, and Sergeant Allen Fortin emailed Lawton back claiming that he had reviewed the video and it showed a violation." Police detective accused of multiple beatings, wrongful arrests

"At least three people claim they've been beaten and wrongly arrested by a veteran Miami Beach police detective. Andrew Mossberg told Local 10 last week that he thought he was stopping a robbery when Philippe Archer, an undercover Miami Beach police detective, knocked him unconscious and arrested him. The department launched an internal affairs investigation into the incident. 'The Miami Beach Police Department has to know that Detective Archer is a problem,' said Michael Goodman, an attorney who represents Guy Moulin. 'He can't just keep beating people, getting sued, and they pretend like nothing ever happened,' said Goodman." Continue reading →

Officer takes seized vehicles home, bills city for repairs

"A Eugene police officer has been reprimanded for improperly taking seized vehicles home with him, neglecting to tell his bosses about it and then charging the city for the time he claims to have spent repairing them. The officer told investigators that he had taken the vehicles home to fix them up so that they could be sold at a higher value as part of a city program that transfers the proceeds of auctioned items into a fund that aids crime victims, officials said. "On Tuesday, a grand jury decided not to indict a Texas trooper who had killed two unarmed Guatemalan immigrants after shooting them from a helicopter last year. A police officer in a helicopter shot at a nonviolent suspect and killed two innocent men, and his actions were deemed defensible because the DPS gave him authority to do so. Before he fell under intense scrutiny, McCraw had expressed no remorse for putting people on the ground in danger while using lethal force against a nonviolent suspect. A few months before the incident, he had told interviewers, 'We're really not apologetic about it. We've got an obligation to protect our men and women when we're trying to protect Texas.'" "This mindset that any challenge to police authority is a threat that needs to be 'neutralized' is a dangerous one that is part of a greater nationwide trend that sets law enforcement officers beyond the reach of the Fourth Amendment. Equally problematic is the trend in the courts that acquits officers involved in such shootings, letting them off with barely a slap to the wrists. What exactly are we teaching these young officers in the police academy when the slightest thing, whether it be a hand in a pocket, a man running towards them, a flashlight on a keychain, or a dehumanizing stare can ignite a strong enough 'fear for their safety' to justify firing on an unarmed person?" Cop convicted for selling machine guns

"A former Basel police detective received a ten-month suspended jail sentence on Monday for using his position to acquire and re-sell illegal machine guns, firearms, hand grenades and other accessories. The 51-year-old, who worked for the cantonal police force for 20 years, was authorized to order guns and other weapons, according to an online report from 20 Minutes newspaper. However, he took advantage of his position to order firearms, which he paid for with his own money then resold to others, the newspaper reported. He admitted in the Basel criminal court to selling to a Zurich friend illegal weapons, including Heckler & Koch MP5 machine guns with silencers and other guns." Continue reading →
