"Orlando,Florida Police Officer Roderick Johnson allegedly did exactly the same thing that Justice, Illinois PD Officer Carmen Scardine was confirmed to have done: He is accused of taking a woman into custody and forcing himself on her sexually. Scardine remains at large and in uniform. The M.O. of Philip Emanuele, a former detective with the Eatontown, NJ Police Department, combined elements of Scardine's approach and that of Adam Sweres, a uniformed sexual predator from Pittsburgh. Emanuele has confessed to forcing a 24-year-old detainee to perform oral sex on him, using the threat of prison on a drug charge to browbeat her into becoming an informant." Continue reading →

Genetically modified salmon not harmful, FDA says

"Federal health regulators say a genetically modified salmon that grows twice as fast as normal is unlikely to harm the environment, clearing the way for the first approval of a scientifically engineered animal for human consumption. The document concludes that the fish 'will not have any significant impacts on the quality of the human environment of the United States.' Regulators also said that the fish is unlikely to harm populations of natural salmon, a key concern for environmental activists. The FDA said more than two years ago that the fish appears to be safe to eat, but the agency had taken no public action since then." Continue reading →

Georgia supervisor, coworkers and four others cashed 1,300 U.S. Treasury checks before authorities caught them

"The former supervisor at an Atlanta mail distribution facility, a coworker and four others pled guilty this month to stealing $3 million in U.S. Treasury checks, including veterans benefits, tax refunds and Social Security checks. By the time authorities figured out the scheme, the small theft ring had stolen or cashed 1,300 federal checks, officials said. And the Georgia workers aren't alone. Between April and September of this year, 171 Postal Service employees were arrested for theft, willful delay or destruction of mail, according to a new report by the USPS inspector general. Son of top DHS border cop busted for running cocaine

"Four south Texas police officers, including the son of a top cop advising the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on border issues, were charged Thursday with accepting thousands of dollars in bribes to guard cartel cocaine shipments. One of the officers arrested, 29-year-old Alexis Rigoberto Espinoza, is the son of Hidalgo Chief of Police Rodolfo Espinoza. Another one of the officers, 29-year-old Jonathan Treviño, is the son of Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño. The elder Treviño also serves on the Southwest Border Task Force, a group established by DHS chief Janet Napolitano in 2009 to advise her on border issues." Continue reading →

Treasury Exempts Foreign Exchange Swaps from Definition of “Swap”

"More government regulations are always a bad idea, however, it should be noted when banksters get special privileges around regs. Dodd-Frank calls for regulation of swaps. The Treasury just announced that its final determination is that foreign exchange swaps are exempted from the definition of 'swap' and are not to be regulated under Dodd-Frank. What's particularly noteworthy about this is that the Federal Reserve did a lot of its propping up of foreign banks during the financial crisis via foreign exchange swap lines." Continue reading →

10-Year Veteran TSA Screener Busted for Stealing iPads at JFK

"A Transportation Security Administration screener has been arrested on charges he swiped iPads and other electronic devices from passengers' luggage at John F. Kennedy Airport. Port Authority spokesman Steven Coleman said Wednesday that 32-year-old Sean Henry, of Brooklyn, was nabbed in a sting operation using decoy bags in cooperation with the TSA. Coleman says Henry was arrested after leaving work carrying in his backpack two planted iPads and other electronic devices. He says stolen items were also found in Henry's home." Continue reading →

Sheriff’s Deputy Pleads Guilty in DWI Crash

"An Erie County Sheriff's Deputy pleaded guilty Monday in connection with a crash that left a motorcyclist with a serious traumatic brain injury. Michael Haug, 29, admitted to being drunk when he struck 37-year-old Daniel Colosimo of Tonawanda on August 4th. Colosimo was stopped at a red light at Sheridan and Bailey in Amherst at the time. Flint Township police officer fired for second time in less than one year

"Township Supervisor Karyn Miller confirmed Officer Matthew Needham had also been terminated in November 2011 for violating four department rules and regulations, but she declined to give details on what specific incidents led to each vote. The issue leading to the second vote was 'a different incident,' Miller said, unrelated to the violations leading to the first termination. Texas Supreme Court reinstates judge who beat disabled daughter

"The Texas Supreme Court on Tuesday lifted the suspension of an Aransas County judge who was caught on video beating his 16-year-old disabled daughter. In September, the commission issued a public warning, stating that Adams conduct discredited the judiciary because he had regularly presided over child custody, child abuse, and family violence cases. Seventeen of the 22 victims were women or children and almost all were shot in the head. The 39-year-old allegedly left his base in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province on the night of March 11 to commit the killings, which included nine children. He allegedly set several of their bodies on fire.
