Whenever someone is confronted with the fact that some federal act they favor is a violation of the Constitution, they’ll simply sidestep constitutional arguments and claim it’s necessary anyway.
While some people are used to hearing these kinds of claims from democrats or republicans, we hear them from everyone, libertarians, too. Take this comment from Chase, in response to a blog by Mike Maharrey posted by Ron Paul:

This is really no different than the argument we’ve heard from left and right over the years.
Gun control supporters say, “Lives are at stake, we must have stronger gun restrictions.”
National healthcare supporters say, “People are dying in the streets, they need Obamacare.”
And don’t forget the neocons, “If we don’t attack Iraq, there will be mushroom clouds over our cities!”
This is a dangerous point of view, because you’ll find that everyone believes their program is life-or-death. And eventually, the federal government will have no limits at all.
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
