The Austrian School of Economics dates its beginnings back to the publication in 1871 of a slender volume: The Principles of Economics(Grundsätze der Volkwirtschaftslehre) by Carl Menger. The adjective "Austrian" was meant to be derogatory, introduced by economists of German school of historicism to ridicule Menger's idea of basing economic science on axiomatic foundations, on the pattern of logic and mathematics.
