Like a Cancer: 3 Big Failures

Government power is like a cancer. So if the people don’t “nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud,” they shouldn’t be surprised when it’s used as a foundation for more and more and more. The people certainly failed to get the job done, and in these three areas, it couldn’t be more obvious.

Massachusetts Bill Would Limit ALPR Data Use and Retention, Help Block National License Plate Tracking Program

A bill introduced in the Massachusetts House would limit the use of data collected by automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) in the state. The proposed law would also place roadblocks in the way of a federal program using states to help track the location of millions of everyday people through pictures of their license plates.

Maine Committee Holds Hearing on Bill to Treat Gold and Silver as Money

The legislation would make gold and silver in coin or bar form legal tender for all transactions as long as the buyer and seller agree as to the fair market value of the metal. The bill would also exempt the sale of gold and silver legal tender from the state sales and use tax.

Missouri House Passes Bill to Limit Warrantless Drone Surveillance

House Bill 178 (HB178) would require state and local law enforcement agencies to get a warrant before using a drone or other unmanned aircraft to gather evidence or other information pertaining to criminal conduct or conduct in violation of a statute or regulation.

To the Governor: Arkansas Passes Bill to Limit Tracking Using Central Bank Digital Currencies

The legislation would prohibit using a “digital currency tracker” to track an individual’s purchases or location through the use by an individual of digital currency without a warrant or unless the individual consents to the tracking. The bill explicitly states that digital currency includes central bank digital currency (CBDC).
