On Tuesday, a Montana Senate committee passed a bill that would create a “Constitution Settlement Commission of the States” by state compact to review, evaluate, and define the scope and power of the federal government. This would set the stage for states to take further action to refuse to cooperate with overreaching federal power.

Montana House Committee Passes “Sheriffs First” Bill

Under the proposed law, a federal employee who is not designated by Montana law as a Montana peace officer could not make an arrest, search, or seizure in the state without the written permission of the sheriff or a designee of the sheriff of the county in which the arrest, search, or seizure would occur.
