FreedomWorks interviews Mike Maharrey on Obamacare Nullification

Tenth Amendment Center national communications director Mike Maharrey recently sat down and chatted with Brad Jackson on the Freedomworks podcast on efforts to nullify Obamacare at the state level.

Maharrey shared good news about a recently passed bill in Georgia that lays the foundation for stopping Obamacare implementation. He also talked about establishment Republican efforts to kill an anti-commandeering bill in South Carolina. Maharrey and Jackson also talked about the importance of refusing to expand Medicaid, and the extensive pressure from the healthcare lobby to do it.

At the core of the entire discussion was the fact the Washington D.C. will not ever take action to stop Obamacare. That means the state must step up.

We’re not very hopeful that Congress is ever going to repeal this thing. Being realistic, they’ve had some opportunities to defund. I don’t think they’ll ever do it. So if we really want to repeal it, at least in practice, we really need to do this at the state level, because when the state refuses to cooperate, when we get enough states to do it, the system is going to fall in on itself. The whole thing was predicated on state cooperation and state assistance.
