Oklahoma liberty-lovers did not take kindly to the backdoor dealings in their state surrounding the insertion of RFID chips in their drivers’ licenses, especially after having been given assurances by their state government that it would not occur.
Working with state legislators and other activists, Kaye Beach of the very popular Axxiom Amuse site “introduced” her fellow Oklahomans to a group of legislators who worked with the companies lobbying themselves and the state’s governor to go forward with the technology. Quite aptly titled, “Meet the Chippers“, the article and follow-up efforts caused quite a stir around the state.
Remembering the episode quite well, when I “met the Chippers”, I was extremely pleased to see Kaye’s election report…
Proof positive that with the proper scrutiny, information, network, and boots on the ground, the people can impact their government.
Notes:
RFID chips are not just being inserted in identification; we recently published an article about RFID chips in trash cans, now being used in Cleveland, for instance to monitor recycling practices for the purposes of imposing fines, click HERE to read.
Mark Lerner’s Stop Real ID Coalition site has a quite a bit of information on this topic.
