One of the Good Guys in Congress, Rep. Dan Benishek (R-MI) on the pending shutdown

Tell me this guy doesn’t look and sound like the guy next door? Pelosi, not so much.

Here’s Dan’s statement from April 5;

“More than a month ago the House passed a bill to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year. Unfortunately neither the Senate Majority Leader nor the White House have committed themselves to the House proposal nor put forth a serious alternative that heeds the calls of the American people who’ve pleaded for reasonable, responsible spending cuts.

Well, Senator Reid and Pres. Obama won’t get everything they want, so now they’ll play the “shutdown” card and hope to pin it on the “Evillll Republicans”.

What people need to understand, and it’s critical, is we can’t do “business as usual” and hope China will continue to buy our bonds to finance an irresponsible debt problem. If we think dependence on foreign oil is bad, just wait till China dumps billions in US bonds on the market because they don’t believe we can ever pay them back. Or, they could just ask for their money when the bonds mature. Either way, we’re screwed.

Stop the spending spree now, and don’t anyone even begin talking about the “Bush deficit”, because Obama more than tripled it in barely two years, and wants to push it still higher.

Is he stupid, or does he mean to destroy our economy on purpose? I don’t see a third option.
