Poll: Nearly One Third Of Americans Would Accept ‘TSA Body Cavity Search’ in Order to Fly

"A new survey commissioned by Infowars and conducted by Harris Interactive has found that almost one third of American adults would accept a 'TSA body cavity search' in order to fly, with a majority of Americans also feeling a law that would make disobeying a TSA agent in any public place illegal is reasonable. The shock results emphasize the level of indignity Americans are willing to tolerate in order to travel. They also highlight how the TSA’s reputation has remained largely intact despite a series of scandals and widespread criticism from innumerable public figures." Continue reading

Kim Dotcom vows free Internet for all of New Zealand

"Eccentric Internet millionaire Kim Dotcom vowed this week to fund free Internet access for all of New Zealand once he gets his new website off the ground. Dotcom is currently embroiled in an extradition fight against the U.S., which accused him of running the largest criminal copyright infringement operation in history and seized his business, Megaupload, in January. Dotcom says new site, Me.ga, will function similarly, but with enhanced encryption and distributed hosting, ensuring that users 'hold the keys' to their own files. Dotcom’s involvement with the plan could prompt U.S. regulators to resist the installation." Continue reading

Syria’s Assad to West: ‘I Am Tougher Than Gaddafi’

"Bashar al-Assad has taken to the Russian airwaves to tell the world that he’s in Syria to stay—and to warn the West and its allies of dire consequences if they try to force him from power. There have been predictions that the reelection of U.S. President Barack Obama might pave the way for more aggressive American action. Members of Syria’s notoriously fractured opposition are convened in Doha this week as part of a U.S.-sponsored effort to create a new and improved body that would be a more credible partner for foreign governments in providing the rebellion with support." As Sanctions Hit Iran’s Most Vulnerable, the Man Who Dared to Feed Sanction-Starved Iraq Remains in Prison

"Dr. Dhafir was one of many Americans, Muslims and non-Muslims, who for 13 years had raised money for food and medicines for sick and starving Iraqis who were the victims of sanctions. He had asked US officials if this humanitarian aid was legal and was assured it was - until the early morning he was hauled out of his car by federal agents as he left for work. His front door was smashed down and his wife had guns pointed at her head. Today, he is serving 22 years in prison. No executive of the oil companies that did billions of dollars of illegal business with Saddam Hussein during the embargo has been prosecuted." Continue reading

Banking with a human face: ‘Bank on Dave’ for people in UK

"Banking malpractice, excessive risk taking and bonuses paid for out of taxpayer bailouts. It's little wonder that people's patience with their banks has run out. But if not the global financial giants, where you entrust your hard-earned cash? RT's Laura Smith meets one British man, who thinks, he's got the answer." Continue reading

Creativity vs. The State

"The free market has found a way around the government-created gas shortages and tortuous lines in NY. Sellers of gasoline have emerged on Craigslist, charging up to $30/gallon. The State is furious! How dare people make voluntary transactions with other individuals! Get back in line! 'We will do everything we can to stop unscrupulous businesses or individuals from taking advantage of New Yorkers trying to rebuild their lives,' New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Monday. 'There are always people who show up when there's a crisis to take advantage of victims of a disaster.'" Continue reading

Cannabis legalisation in Washington and Colorado: A game changer

"The new Colorado and Washington legislation puts the states in clear breach of the general obligation of the 1961 UN drug convention requiring the criminalisation of non-medical supply and use. The US has historically been the biggest cheerleader for such prohibitions on the global stage. It will be interesting to see whether they tone down their 'tough on drugs' rhetoric now that they themselves are the first to do the previously unthinkable. The hypocrisy of the US demanding that other nations carry on enforcing prohibition while they themselves are retreating from it, could be enough to encourage a range of countries to start agitating for reform." Former Washington, Colorado cops explain: What’s really going to change now that marijuana is legal?

"Following wins for marijuana legalization in Washington and Colorado on Tuesday night, a former Seattle police chief and a former Denver police officer sat down with Raw Story to discuss what the laws will actually do and how they think things will change. The possibility remains that the Obama administration may file suit against Colorado and Washington to prevent them from implementing regulatory schemes or granting permits for retail sales. Meanwhile, the Obama administration’s U.S. Attorneys have been adamant about busting hundreds of medical marijuana outlets." Continue reading

"On Tuesday, voters in Flint, Michigan enacted a measure decriminalizing possession of less than an ounce of marijuana by people 19 or older. The municipal government afflicting that city blithely responded by saying that it doesn’t take orders from the people whom they supposedly represent: 'The ballot proposal approved by Flint voters creating an exemption under city ordinance to allow persons at least 19 years old to possess less than one ounce of marijuana is symbolic in nature. It does not decriminalize possession of marijuana.' Police Chief Alvern Locke candidly asserted that the officers under his command will simply defy the new law." Continue reading
