Obama Versus Someone Who Actually Knows What He’s Talking About

I’ve been studying economics this school year along with my two teenaged sons in our homeschool.  We listened to a lecture the other day during which Nobel Laureate economist Robert E. Lucas, Jr., was quoted.  After hearing our president’s remarks on the occasion of his second inauguration, I felt compelled to go back and listen… more

Let’s See What Condition Our Condition Is In

Author’s Note: This is the second in a series of articles about Nebraska’s Medicaid program, the Unicameral’s apparent intent to expand it, and the many reasons why expansion is an uncommonly bad idea.  Although they don’t have to be read in order, you can go to the first article, entitled NE Medicaid Expansion: The Race… more

NE Medicaid Expansion (#1): The Race is On

Author’s Note:  This is the first in a series of articles about Nebraska’s Medicaid program, the Unicameral’s apparent intent to expand it, and the many reasons why expansion is an uncommonly bad idea. Last year when the Unicameral expanded the state’s already generous Medicaid program to cover prenatal care provided to women who were ineligible… more

Letter to Senator Johanns: Will Republicans Just Repeat Debt Limit Mistake?

Well, the party leadership not only caved, they compounded their foolishness by agreeing to automatic future budget cuts that… more

Unicameral Finally Made Unlisted Tax Committee Legal After 30 Years

In the week and a half before the election, we gave two presentations about Proposed Amendments No. 3 and 4 on the Nebraska ballot, which would have extended the term limits for Nebraska State Senators Nebraskans voted into the State Constitution in 2000 and would have increased their salaries from $12,000 to $22,500 per year. We decided to focus on those two Amendments because we knew, based on our research and direct experiences, that our State Legislators consistently seek very wrong solutions to some big problems in our Unicameral. Just a brief article to provide links so people may examine results of the election in Nebraska in more detail. For one thing – WHY… more

Election Results: NE Statewide & Links to Every County

Just a brief article to provide links so people may examine results of the election in Nebraska in more detail. I humbly suggest that among the motivations one could glean from Tuesday’s election results, would be to turn more of our attention to the happenings within in our own state. For one thing – WHY are there so MANY government bodies on our ballots necessitating all of these candidates? Do we really need all of these entities and all of these people? My Conversation with Sen. Pete Pirsch: Amendment No. 2

As we reported in our earlier article about Proposed Amendment No. 2, I sent an email to the measure’s sponsor, Senator Pete Pirsch, pointing out some legal concerns about the language chosen for his amendment. Readers can read in detail about those concerns in that prior article, so I’ll give the bottom-line version here: a… more
