Not Even a Whole Set of Ginsu Knives Can Help Bernanke with this Slice and Dice Job

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke appeared on 60 Minutes this week, apparently to soothe Americans’ concerns. This of course, is a necessary PR effort at this point. Wonder if that PR firm the Fed hired in 2009 advised Bernanke to make the appearance? Perhaps, although these efforts don’t appear to be working all that well. [...]

Coming to a Wal-Mart Check-Out Near You: How to spy on your fellow citizens

By Shelli  Dawdy Having been largely raised by a grandmother who grew up during the Depression, being frugal comes second nature to me, so I do a good deal of my basic-item shopping at Wal-Mart. Many of us know that Wal-Mart has been long maligned by the left. As a fan of a free market, [...]

Unconstitutional: Who Decides? States via Nullification or Supreme Court?

“Laws are made for men of ordinary understanding, and should, therefore, be construed by the ordinary rules of common sense. Their meaning is not to be sought for in metaphysical subtleties, which may make anything mean nothing or everything, at pleasure.“ Many people are seeking solutions to rein in the growth of government, most particularly [...]

Et tu, Senator Johanns? First Food Safety, Now Unemployment Extension?

By Shelli Dawdy Earlier this week, the Senate passed a food safety bill that would grant sweeping new powers to the FDA, that would add $1.4 billion in costs to the federal budget, and that stands to hurt small farms. As we noted in our article on the subject, Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns voted for [...]

Feeling Surprised and Betrayed by GOP Senate Votes on Food Safety Bill?

I wish I could say that I find the results of Tuesday’s Senate vote on S-510 a surprise, but I don’t. People have expressed shock that so many Republican Senators voted in favor of granting a lot more power to the FDA, spending $1.4 billion we cannot afford, and likely hurting smaller-sized farms.

Financial Collapse: Can It Happen Here? If So, Then What?

There is an unfortunate tendency within human beings to deny the truth if it is too difficult to process. Politically this phenomenon is seen most frequently when people make the acknowledgment that it would be better to sweep incumbents out of office and start over with some “real people”. When it comes time to vote, [...]

47% of Nebraska Births Paid for By the State: Is that Good?

Several articles we've published recently reported on a meeting of Nebraska Senators representing districts in Lancaster that occurred on November 17 in Lincoln. One of those articles, NE Senators Meeting 11/17 Part 2: Voices Not Often Heard, focused on remarks Linda and I made addressing core questions regarding the true purpose of government and whether or not the $900 million+ - $1.4 billion budget shortfall is being taken seriously enough. Linda focused in particular on the serious problems with Nebraska's Medicaid system. Following the meeting, Linda sent a letter to the Senators who attended to reinforce several of the points she'd made, which we are sharing, below. Linda did some additional research following writing her letter, which lays out even more problems coming with Medicaid, which you can read about HERE.

A GiN Toast to OK Sen. Inhofe: Christmas is About Christ

We propose a toast to Oklahoma’s U.S. Senator James Inhofe for taking the right stand on participating in an annual Tulsa parade. Inhofe has refused to participate for the past two seasons in what is now called “Tulsa’s Parade of Lights” because, he noted, “I did not do so last year, because I’m not going [...]

Ever-Expanding Welfare: He May Be My Brother, But He’s Getting Heavy

“Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief” From the poem “Rich Man, Poor Man” by Josephine Preston Peabody The phrase “rich man, poor man” iconic for many, likely evokes two images: the typical predatory “fat cat” and the threadbare street urchin. Do those traditional images apply today? A recent article, “Soaking the Rich: Why Warren [...]
