Wisconsin GOP lawmakers support arresting federal officials over Obamacare

"According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the group — Reps. Chris Kapenga (R), Don Pridemore (R), Erik Severson (R), Tom Larson (R) Rog Hutton (R), and Mark Born (R) and Sen. Mary Lazich (R) — stated their intentions as part of a questionnaire handed to state assembly candidates by the right-wing group Campaign for Liberty. House Republicans at the federal level have passed a horde of bills calling for it to be repealed, but more recently, House speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) suggested those efforts would cease following Obama’s re-election." Continue reading

Anti-Secession Threat From Spookville

"Most of you have probably heard of the different State petitions on the White House website to secede from the United States. I wanted to remind you that Allegiance to the United States is one of the 13 adjudicative guidelines that DISCO uses to grant you access to classified/sensitive information. A personnel security investigation (security clearance investigation) is an inquiry into an individual’s loyalty, character, trustworthiness, and reliability to ensure that he or she is eligible to access classified information or occupy a position of trust." Montana Voters Nullify Obamacare Mandates

"The 'Montana Health Care Freedom Act' otherwise known as Referendum 122, prohibits the state and federal governments from requiring the purchase of health insurance or imposing any penalty, tax, fee or fine on those who do not purchase health insurance. The prohibition does have some restrictions, but the good thing about this…these rules are being set by the state of Montana, not the the Federal Government . Referendum 122 Passed 66% YES to 34% NO. This makes Montana the 3rd state to nullify Obamacare after the SCOTUS decision that called it 'constitutional' this summer." Continue reading

With Two States Legalizing Marijuana, Are Drug Warriors In Washington Freaking Out?

"Voters in Colorado and Washington made history Tuesday night. The states’ marijuana legalization initiatives, I-502 in Washington and Amendment 64 in Colorado, brought what many marijuana advocates are calling the beginning of the end of marijuana prohibition in America. But the power of the people -- and the states -- have one big hurdle to clear before the ban on pot is lifted: The feds. Only this time, the people may have built more than drug warriors' boots can stomp out." Continue reading

Louisiana residents petition to secede

"According to the White House website, the petition was created by Michael E. (full last name not provided) of Slidell, La., the day after the election and has since been electronically signed by a few hundred people, most – but not all – of whom hail from the Pelican State. The petition has until Dec. 7 of this year to gather 25,000 signatures, at which time, the White House pledges, it will be placed on a queue for response from the administration. The White House created the 'We the People' petition site ostensibly as a way of giving all Americans 'a way to engage their government on the issues that matter to them.'" Continue reading

Voters in Six States Approve Measures Nullifying Federal Acts

"Of 72 hours of election coverage not one minute was devoted to reporting the results of several ballot initiatives nullifying unconstitutional acts of Congress. None of the highly paid, pancake-powdered pundits spoke a single syllable about the noteworthy and now codified efforts of citizens across the country to stop the encroachment of federal tyranny at the state borders. At The New American, we strive to promote liberty through the publishing of news stories related to the Constitution, and to that end, proceeding from Atlantic to Pacific, we here present a brief rundown of the several nullifying proposals passed by voters." Obama Wins A Second Term: Now What?

"The game will go on until the time is up for our nation. Austerity measures will dramatically increase, benefits and promises will be lost by the poor and remaining middle class citizens who really need them and taxes will rise, as will the risk of gold and wealth confiscation. Obama will be blamed, just as Romney would have been blamed had he been elected president, for this is how our regulatory/debt democracy works today in the 21st century. A failed system of central bank control leading a failed economy, a failing currency and a controlled system totally divorced from control or limitation by the citizens of America." Continue reading

Catalan politicians ask for EU help against Spanish army

"Four Catalan MEPs have asked the European Commission to tell Spain it cannot use military force to stop Catalonia from splitting away. The letter says: 'We are writing to you to convey our deep concern over a series of threats of the use of military force against the Catalan population ... In these circumstances, the EU should intervene preventatively to guarantee that the resolution of the Catalan conflict be resolved in a peaceful, democratic manner.' Spanish MEP Alejo Vidal-Quadras had said: 'They [the government] should be briefing a general of the Civil Guard ... the government should think of intervening in the rebellious region if they persist.'" Arizona to vote on taking control of Grand Canyon

"Arizonans will vote next month on a ballot proposal to give the state control over the Grand Canyon – the latest move in the so-called 'sagebrush revolt' in which western states are trying to reclaim federal land. The issue was put on the ballot after the proposal passed the Republican-controlled legislature. It would amend the state constitution to give Arizona sovereignty and jurisdiction over not just the Grand Canyon but all the 'air, water, public lands, minerals, wildlife and other natural resources' within its boundaries." The Odyssey of Sound Economics

"As they say, it is always darkest before the dawn. And Lew Rockwell, on a shoestring budget, founded the Ludwig von Mises Institute for Austrian Economics (LvMI's official name). What is more, he did so in the face of furious opposition from the same billionaires who had chosen to downplay Mises, financed the diffuse GMU program, and forced Rothbard out of Cato. Sound economics finally had an institutional home. What is more, truth, if made accessible, can spread like a prairie fire. Ron Paul has inspired thousands with his message of liberty. These thousands are a huge potential seedbed for future growth in the causal-realist Austrian School." Continue reading
