"Ever since Sandy strafed the Queens peninsula and tore up the boardwalk, it’s become an often lawless place where cops are even scarcer than electrical power and food. Locals say they are arming themselves with guns, baseball bats, booby traps — even a bow and arrow — to defend against looters. Thugs have been masquerading as Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) workers, knocking on doors in the dead of night. Sheriff’s Deputy Pleads Guilty in DWI Crash

"An Erie County Sheriff's Deputy pleaded guilty Monday in connection with a crash that left a motorcyclist with a serious traumatic brain injury. Michael Haug, 29, admitted to being drunk when he struck 37-year-old Daniel Colosimo of Tonawanda on August 4th. Colosimo was stopped at a red light at Sheridan and Bailey in Amherst at the time. Haug's BAC (blood alcohol content) was .25%, more than three times the legal limit." Continue reading

Flint Township police officer fired for second time in less than one year

"Township Supervisor Karyn Miller confirmed Officer Matthew Needham had also been terminated in November 2011 for violating four department rules and regulations, but she declined to give details on what specific incidents led to each vote. The issue leading to the second vote was 'a different incident,' Miller said, unrelated to the violations leading to the first termination. Elmore City Police Chief Says He Was Fired Over ‘Ticket Quota’

"An Elmore City police chief says he was fired for not writing enough tickets. The former chief says he was told by the mayor there was a ticket quota and when he refused to meet it, he was let go. News 9 checked with an attorney who says ticket quotas are illegal and a violation of a police officer's oath. But the former chief and others who used to work for the city tell News 9 the mayor made it clear, he expected a certain amount of tickets to be written every day." Continue reading

U.S. soldier could face death over Afghan massacre

[Should have been a drone pilot instead.] "Bales faces 16 counts of murder, six of attempted murder, seven of assault, two of using drugs and one of drinking alcohol. Seventeen of the 22 victims were women or children and almost all were shot in the head. The 39-year-old allegedly left his base in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province on the night of March 11 to commit the killings, which included nine children. He allegedly set several of their bodies on fire. Prosecutors at the pre-trial hearing have alleged that Bales left the base twice to carry out the killings, returning in between and even telling a colleague what he had done." Continue reading

Kenneth Bluew also received 65 to 100 years in prison for the death of Jennifer Webb’s unborn son as Saginaw County Circuit Court Judge Darnell Jackson exceeded sentencing guidelines on an assault charge related to the fetus." "A former Navajo Police Department officer has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for sexually abusing a woman in his custody in 2009. Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., say 31-year-old Lawrence Etsitty received a 54-month prison term Tuesday followed by three years of supervised release. Milan officer indicted on 24 counts of sexual misconduct

"The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a suspended Milan police officer Monday on 24 counts of sexual misconduct. A Gibson County grand jury indicted Adam Scott Martin, of Atwood, on 18 counts of rape, one count of incest, one count of aggravated sexual battery, one count of sexual battery by an authority figure and three counts of sexual battery, after a TBI investigation. Martin, 39, initially was arrested in July on one count of sexual battery by an authority figure against a 19-year-old woman. The July charge was included in Monday’s indictment and involves the same victim." Continue reading
