Book Review of “The Case for Christ”

Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ might be a strange book to have a review for on a site like this. As one can easily gather from the title, it is an argument for Jesus to be the Lord of our lives. And so, if you are here, you have probably already read the book, or, as a believer, you'd have the quite natural question: Why should I read it? But I would encourage you to read it, or even reread it. If you are like me, you read the book many years ago, either as a nonbeliever or as a brand-new Christian. And as a book for the nonbeliever or brand-new Christian, it is unquestionably a book of great value. Yet I submit that for the more seasoned believer, there are still more lessons to be gleaned from the book that might have been inaccessible to us when we were infants in the faith.

Book Review of “The Politics of Obedience”

I come to you now with The Politics of Obedience (circa 1552) by Étienne de La Boétie (1530–1563). In a very real way, La Boétie is the reformer of political thought in the same way that Luther was the reformer of the Catholic Church, except that where Luther's Reformation took hold and flourished, La Boétie's has never taken hold to the same extent, though his ideas have influenced thinkers over the centuries. Here is a book worth reading and really worth ruminating over. Given how brief it is (only about 80 pages in this edition) it is one that you ought not delay in reading.

Wisdom in the Best Books and Films

Jacob Bair recently ran for office in Oklahoma. That is how we met. Then I found out that we also share a love of good books and seeking wisdom. He has both a substack and a podcast and is a wealth of information! I asked him if he had an index to his work and he said no but that he would create one and that he did. Here it is (shared with permission); the links at the end of each listing go to the article or episode in his substack:

Book Review of “Don’t Sit This One Out”

Politics doesn’t have to be your thing for your vote to matter. If elections leave you wondering where to start, what all those offices actually do, or how you're supposed to sort reliable information from political noise, Don't Sit This One Out was written for you. In this practical, easy-to-follow guide, Cheryl Wilburg walks through the voting process from a citizen's point of view—not a political insider's. You'll explore why participation matters, why the offices farther down the ballot deserve your attention, how to research candidates and claims without becoming overwhelmed, and how to make your own decisions when everyone around you seems eager to make them for you.

Books Added to the Library

Several years ago now, I worked with a dear friend and mentor to publish books for him. His name was Jesse C Jones and he was a lifetime friend of my family. His story and a little about the early days is in one of his books, A Man of God. When we originally published his books, we did so on the platform Scribd. It was a great place to store books, pamphlets, and documents and everything was free to publish and share. Since that time, they have tried to move the platform to a membership venue, but we are grandfathered in there at least for now. I don't like the way they try to get everyone who goes there to join now, but all of our books there are still free to read and download if you push past all that. But I don't know how long that will last either. Therefore, I am adding the books that I want to be sure stay available to CLibertyC. I plan to leave them on Scribd as well. These books are indexed and linked here for your easy access below. They are being added by the date published.

The Ways of Life

The human body is designed to provide many years of life in a continual disease free, good feeling, and functional state.  Such can come about by living a lifestyle that properly nourishes the body while keeping toxins and obstructions at a minimal level. Most accumulate higher levels of toxins and obstructions as they age.  Higher levels of toxins and obstructions cause pain, inflammation and disease.  This in turn in results in a lower quality of life and too often shortens life. There is a natural solution to the normal progressions that are carried along with age.  That is to change to a lifestyle which will help the body to better lower the amount of accumulated toxins and reduce the amount of obstructions. As these two reduce the body can not only slow progression of disease but it also can result in reverse the cause of disease within the body and open the door to reverse aging.

Why Evolution and Biblical Christianity Cannot Coexist

There’s a popular myth floating around in modern churches — that evolution and Christianity can somehow be harmonized. That maybe God used evolution. That Genesis is “symbolic.” That Adam and Eve weren’t really the first humans, just representative figures. That myth is not harmless. It strikes at the very heart of the Gospel. Because if evolution is true, then the Bible is not. And if the Bible is not true in Genesis, it cannot be trusted in John 3:16 either. Let’s be blunt: evolution is not a scientific theory seeking truth; it is a religious philosophy designed to eliminate God. And it’s been remarkably successful in doing so — not because it proved God wrong, but because too many Christians surrendered before the fight even began.
