I (Jesse C. Jones) chose the above title to reflect my understanding of what the Bible tells us about God’s plan and purpose in sending His only Son to earth in the form of a man. We know that Jesus came to restore God’s chosen ones to favor through spiritual regeneration. The path He chose is marked with milestones described herein. John wrote this Gospel while he was bishop of the church at Ephesus, during the period between 80 - 90 AD, and prior to the writing of 1, 2, and 3 John, and the Book of Revelation. This Gospel is often referred to as the “spiritual Gospel,” since it focuses on the spiritual aspect of Jesus’ ministry, emphasizing His divinity. Paul addresses his letter to those at Corinth that are sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be saints, along with all the others who call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Paul draws a line here between those in the church at Corinth that are (or are being) sanctified and called to be saints, from those that believe in Jesus Christ our Lord, but have not yet entered into sanctification. He seems to emphasize the fact that all the above, both sanctified and not yet sanctified, are followers of the same Lord. He goes on to beseech them to speak in unity, and be perfectly joined together, of a common mind and purpose, with no divisions among them.

This Epistle was written during a brief stay of three months at Corinth, during Paul’s third missionary journey. The time of writing this letter is thought to be around 58 AD. The book of Romans is considered the great dogmatic epistle, and in it Paul gives an exposition of the Gospel in a systematic way that is widely recognized as the outstanding source of Christian doctrine in the Bible. One of the great doctrines of this epistle is that of justification by faith. Justification indicates that a person is freed from the penalty of their sin through faith, and they are accepted by God as worthy of being saved. In this epistle Paul indicates that the only way this can happen is for the sinner to stand in the righteousness of Christ, and have his sin atoned for: then it is as if the sin had not been committed.
